“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire,” he said in a statement obtained by Variety. “I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

Leno was injured when a flame came out of the exhaust of one of his cars in a garage where he keeps his vehicles stored in Los Angeles, his representatives confirmed to Fox Television Stations, KTTV reported. The incident happened Sunday, according to TMZ. The tabloid news site was the first to report on Leno’s injuries.

The left side of his face was injured, prompting him to seek treatment at the Grossman Burn Center, TMZ reported. Neither his eye nor his ear was badly burned, according to TMZ, although additional information about his condition was not immediately available.

Leno was due to perform a private stand-up show for The Financial Brand Forum conference in Las Vegas on Sunday but cancelled the appearance. In an email obtained by People, conference organizers said Leno had experienced “a very serious medical emergency” that prevented him from traveling.

Leno hosted NBC’s “The Tonight Show” from 1992 until 2009, and again from 2010 until 2014. He hosts the car-focused show “Jay Leno’s Garage” on CNBC and the recent revival of the quiz show “You Bet Your Life.”
