American director, Paul Justman has been reported dead. According to sources, he died at his home in the Hollywood Hills on March 7, however, his death was only brought to light by his brother, Seth Justman, on Monday, July 3, 2023. He was 74 years old at the time of death.

Born on August 27, 1948, Paul Justman grew up in Washington in Newton, Mass. He was drawn to music, and he played drums and guitar in rock bands as a teenager and danced. He fell in love with photography at a very young age.

He graduated from Earlham College in Indiana in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and moved to New York, where he took a job with a team making short films about American culture for Swedish television.

Justman also worked as an assistant to Robert Frank, where he served as an editor on a warts-and-all documentary about Rolling Stones’ raucous 1972 North American tour, which became famous, in part of its obscene name, although it was never officially released.

He was credited for several movies, documentaries, and music videos including Standing in the Shadows of Motown, The Doors: Live in Europe 1968, Deep Purple: Heavy Metal Pioneers, Freeze Frame, Shake It Up, and more.
