Even all these months after its release, Captain America: Civil War still finds itself in the news every now and then. Granted, a lot of the focus has shifted away from Marvel’s massive threequel and towards some of their upcoming efforts like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, but Joe and Anthony Russo’s tremendously successful blockbuster is still on the minds of many.
Helping keep it there now is some brand new concept art, which has surfaced on the official website of artist Christian Cordella. If you’re unfamiliar with the name, he’s a notable costume concept artist who’s worked on projects like Star Trek: Beyond, Jurassic World and The Jungle Book. He’s also been hired to do work on some of Marvel’s upcoming efforts such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. In short, he’s very accomplished and now, we have a glimpse at some of his early work on Civil War.
[zergpaid]Admittedly, nothing here is too different from what ended up in the final film, but it’s always nice to get a look at some of the artwork that was tossed around during the initial stages of production. Featured in the gallery above are Cap, Black Widow, Sharon Carter, Bucky and more, as well as some Soviet Super Soldiers. None of it will stop the presses, but for Marvel fans, it’s worth a look.
Speaking about the concept art to Tyranny of Style, Cordella offered up the following thoughts on Steve Rogers’ costume:
“Steve Rogers is more comfortable in the modern world than he was in Winter Soldier. In that film we chose not to have any garments that reflected the 1940s, particularly any brown leather jackets or khakis until the end of the film. He would look a bit uncomfortable in his new clothing, but update him with an American Classic look.
In Civil War, Steve is now adjusted to this world so we felt we could reintroduce the brown leather, so I designed a leather jacket for him that would be modern, but classic at the same time. By using a washed leather, it immediately became more modern. I always kept in mind that he should exhibit a classic all-American look with slim cut jeans and trousers and simple t-shirts.”
Captain America: Civil War is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
