Knicks Owner James Dolan Says He's Not Selling Team

The New York Knicks have been one of the worst teams in the NBA over the past two decades, but James Dolan isn't planning to relinquish ownership during another frustrating season.

After the team fired president Steve Mills, Dolan released a statement and shut down any speculation that he could look to sell the team.

Many frustrated Knicks fans have pointed the finger squarely at Dolan as they continue to hover near the bottom of the standings. "Sell the team" chants have erupted through Madison Square Garden, too.

But Dolan, CEO and executive chairman for The Madison Square Garden company, unsurprisingly isn't interested in selling whatsoever. Simple fan cries are never enough for an owner to sell a professional sports franchise.

The Knicks haven't made the playoffs since 2013, and they've only won a single postseason series dating back to the 2000-01 season. Once again, the Knicks will be a lottery team in 2020 as they prepare to record a seventh straight losing season.

There was widespread belief that the Knicks would land two premier free agents in last year's class, with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving being heavily linked to Dolan's team. Both wound up signing with the Brooklyn Nets, however, and the Knicks failed to land any of the big-named stars on the open market.

That said, the Knicks are in primary position to finish up this rebuild in good timing, if they can hit on the plethora of draft picks that are coming in.

Mike Miller is the Knicks' sixth head coach dating back to 2014. David Fizdale barely lasted more than a season before the team fired him in Dec. 2018.

The Knicks hoped that Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson -- who won six title with the Chicago Bulls and five with the Los Angeles Lakers -- would be able to fix the turmoil when he was hired as their new president in 2014. But even Jackson couldn't help reverse the teams fortunes, and he left the organization in 2017.

Knicks fans can only hope that Dolan will eventually find the right people to lead this team in the right direction once and for all.
